Ingenio La Magdalena was born as a trapiche, installed by Mr. Miguel Ángel Giammattei. In 1965, La Magdalena became a sugar mill and began to transform cane juice into raw sugar or “pylon”, which was used for apiaries and export.

In 1981, according to the Basic Law of Agrarian Reform, the Ingenio became
property of the National Institute of Sugar (Inazúcar), later administered by the government. The administration of Inazúcar arrived until 1994, when the government sold the sugar mill through shares to cane producers, workers and investors, converting it into a Sociedad Anónima (S. A.). Nowadays, forachieve efficient industrial returns, ingenuity maintains its crops through a strict control of the raw material before and during the harvest, with samplings of cane in its five cane areas.
